Christmas Cards!! Bah Hum Bug!

That's right. . . I am a ScRoOgE!

Don't let my new background fool you. I am such a Scrooge!
The following reasons qualify me as a true Christmas scrooge!
1) I am not going to decorate my house for Christmas. Call it lazy, boring, and just plain scrooge like.
2) I have been dragging my feet for weeks with getting and doing Christmas cards this year.

I am not a fan of Christmas this year. Such a Scrooge. . . I know!!
I am angry. I know this is like a broken record. . .but I am angry.

Holidays and birthdays always remind me of happy families and children. Every year Ryan and I have the battle of the Christmas card. He was raised in a family of the annual Christmas card. I am not knocking that whole tradition. I admit I love to receive Christmas cards, especially when it has a personal picture. However, I hate that it is yet another year that we are sending out a picture in our childless glory.

I know I am being selfish and that I am dwelling in my anger a little too much. But honestly, who wants a picture of just Ryan and I?? We don't change much. I would much rather send a picture of our cats and Lacy.

Ryan loves to stay in touch with his friends and family. That is something that I adore about him. He likes to send out a 'personal card' rather than a store bought card. So we are going to send out yet another childless Christmas card picture. BAH HUM BUG!!

Do any of you send out personal picture's Christmas cards? Would you if you were/are childless?

Also, if you would like one of the famous Christmas cards send me your address! They are going to be sent out late, due to my dragging feet!

A big thanks to Brandon and Tawny for letting me practice on them. . .again! Here are a few of the pictures I took for their Christmas card.

I feel bad. . .it wasn't my best work. I was feeling really sick. . .I may have to make it up to them. I am going to be so happy when I am no longer feeling sick!

Well Heather I happen to think that you are beautiful and would love a Christmas picture with just you and Ryan on it...and I am with you on not adoring Christmas. It is not my favorite holiday either.
I love your new background!!

You're not selfish. I felt the same way for 6 Christmas'. People are still VERY interesting in seeing your beautiful mug. I'm just as interested in looking at the adults as I am the kids. You should include some combination of your animals. Cute photos, btw. You did a great job. I have some links to show you of some cute photos I just saw recently. I love looking at photography. I can't stand listening to Christmas music if that makes you feel better. And I hate decorating my house. Bah Humbug, right w/ you! :)

I guess I am the ultimate scrooge, cause we have never done a Christmas card...not sure we ever will. I guess I just figure anyone who cares to see our pics sees them enough on the blog etc... it is too huge of a task to mail all those suckers out.
Heather, you BLOW ME AWAY with how talented you are. I can't believe you took those pictures! They are beautiful. You can practice on my family ANY time.\"/
Also... I hear you are the best and favorite aunt... so if you ever want to adopt another family full of nieces and nephews... I have a baby that deserves to be held more...you can come hold him ANY time! \"/

ps- I would like to add that I would send out a picture of Paul, Loki, and I... but Paul hates his picture being taken, and taking a picture of a physco cat is very hard. I'm like you. I'd like to send at least a picture of our pet! hee hee! But I love your cards! I think its so cute that you send out pictures of just you two. I did recieve a lot of cards last year from my friends with no kids, and there were just pictures of the 2 of them. :)

This is an area where Heather and I disagree. Christmas is a very happy time of year for me. As she identified, I credit this to my family and the wonderful memories of Christmas that they created. Actually, it is from childhood memories that I have developed a lot of my outlook on life. I think Heather is the same in that regard.

She is right that I like sending Christmas cards out because I think it helps stay in touch with people. I include a photo simply because I would rather receive a photo when someone sends us a card. I don't see the point in sending a store bought card with a generic message that is simply signed... save the stamp. There are several people who have criticized us for sending a photo card and/or a brief update on us. Those people need not be concerned in the future since they have been removed from the list. It helps me know who is worth staying in touch with.

As for who is in the photo my view is that a Christmas card photo is of the family. Whether or not we have a child, Heather and I are no less a family than those who have kids.

I defintely understand Heather's bitterness about not being blessed with children yet, I do not share that feeling. God has obviously not seen fit to make that a part of our life so far; he may never. So be it. At least I have Heather and can spend my life with her.

Any bitterness I have comes more from the stress and trial that infertility has placed on us. I will be quite relieved when this trial is resolved one way or the other and we can proceed with our life together.

Sorry for the long comment, but that is my version of this post... for what it's worth.

Oh... and do not anticipate a Christmas card from us this year. I doubt that we'll be sending one. It's not important enough to me to send one when Heather doesn't care to. We'll post a photo on her blog.

Ryan's comment was very sweet. He is very right, you are a family with or without children.

I liked getting your card last year. It's fun to hear updates, and get a current picture.

We don't do Christmas Cards. I would love to, but the effort of getting my kids all in a mood for a picture at the same time seems too hard! I also feel like anyone I would send one to reads my blog.

I want a picture of just Ryan and you- that's who.

Glad you sent one out! It's a great picture. The kids are fighting over who gets to keep it!

Oh Heather, I am SO behind in doing any blogging. I haven't been keeping up with posting my own or reading anybody else's. I'm just NOW starting to catch-up.
I am so glad you sent out cards this year. I was totally excited to get yours in the mail! I just want to say DITTO to all of the comments above. Look at how many people love you guys! THAT is something special. I know it's no consolation prize, but without your trials, I wouldn't have felt the need to reach out and my life wouldn't have the blessing of having you in it right now. And, like Kim, if you get tired of nieces and nephew's, I've got Brooke who LOVES to blow kisses!! And TYLER would LOVE you too! He'd probably climb on you, drag you around the house and MAKE you play Star Wars. Heck, ALL of my kids would smother you with their obnoxiousness. :) Keep on keepin' on!
